Who are we?
Who are we?
We (Hannah and Ben) met many moons ago onboard the Africa Mercy; now we are excited to return with our family to serve in West Africa with Mercy Ships on the Global Mercy!
Our volunteer service with Mercy Ships is a result of our desire to live out our faith, to be the 'hands and feet' of Jesus to others.
Ben serves in the Academy, the onboard K-12 school for students of the Mercy Ships crew, that allows families to serve together. Hannah fills the role of 'Primary Caregiver' as well as a Preoperative Nurse.
We love the opportunity we get to serve God overseas as a family unit, and would love to connect with you more in person, through email, or as a financial supporter.
UPDATE Sept 2026:
Surgery started in Ghana! After a busy few weeks with setup surgeries have started onboard the Global Mercy for the Ghana field service.
The clip below is the moment the whole ship paused in prayer before the first patient went into the OR (the Academy even sneaks into the video).

All our work with Mercy Ships in completely volunteer based. As crew members on the Global Mercy we pay crew fees, insurance, and travel expenses.
We rely on donations from partners to help cover these costs.

History
History
Mercy Ships began its mission in 1978 to provide hope and healing to those in need. Each year it sends hospital ships filled with volunteer professionals who selflessly provide life-changing surgeries to children and adults who otherwise would go without.
Around the world in places without access to medical care, there are children, teens and adults suffering and dying from treatable causes. Without help, one child in eight will die before age 5. Together, we can reach these vulnerable children and families and provide the hope and healing they have been praying for.
The hospital ships, Africa Mercy and Global Mercy are filled with state-of-the-art medical equipment and a volunteer crew of doctors, nurses, medical staff, technicians, teachers, physical therapists and other caring people driven by mercy to help make the world a better, healthier place for all.
